The Bremen crimes ended with Erik Vogler nerves broken. The doctors said he needed rest. He still has nightmares about the chess "white king" mostly every night. This is the reason why he accepted his grandmother, Berta’s invitation to spend a week in a luxury thermal resort. What Erik doesn’t know is that Berta has also invited Albert, the long-teeth and pale-skinned boy. Erik could not have imagined that a relaxing mud bath would become living hell when an old rich lady dies in his presence. When he comes back after seeking help, the body has disappeared and nobody believes Erik’s story. Things get worst when he receives anonymous letters asking him for the necklace that the old lady had given him before she died. Erik doesn’t remember the lady giving him anything and worse of all is that the author of these letters threaten to take action if they don’t get what they want very soon.
