Pau Joan Hernández was born in 1967 in the city of Barcelona, where he studied Philology. He began to write at a very young age publishing his first novel when he was 18. It was realistic and aimed at a younger public. Later, however, his work has been aimed towards fantastic narrative, or narrative combining the fantastic with reality, like in The owl and the gallows, also in this collection. His novels have been awarded with a variety of prizes and are translated into other languages. He is also an accomplished poet. He currently combines his literary creativity with his reviews in different newspapers, translation (from Spanish, Basque, French and Galician) and contributing to a multitude of publishing projects. He is married and has two children.
