Juan Kruz Igerabide was born in Aduna (Guipúzcoa), a small village near San Sebastián. He got a degree in Spanish philology and for several years he worked as a teacher. Later, he became a doctor in Basque philology, and he started to teach at the University of the Basque Country. He began to cultivate poetry for adults, and then, little by little, he worked his way into the world of children’s literature, now having published several books.
